Juno
A comedy about growing up... and the bumps along the way.
Fox Searchlight released the Oscar-winning Mr. Mudd/Mandate produced picture, Juno, in December of 2007. Directed by Jason Reitman and penned by Diablo Cody, Juno stars Ellen Page as the title character, a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker (Michael Cera).
Juno finds her unborn child a perfect set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), longing to adopt. Luckily, Juno has the support of her parents (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) as she faces some tough decisions, flirts with adulthood and ultimately figures out where she belongs. Halfon, Smith and Malkovich produced the film with Mason Novick. Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane of Mandate Pictures executive produced.
Juno premiered as the surprise hit at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival, and has continued to win critical and audience awards at festivals ever since. In addition to Cody's Oscar for Best Screenplay, Juno was nominated for three other Academy Awards®, including Best Motion Picture of the Year. Juno was awarded three Independent Spirit Awards in 2008, including Best Feature, Best First Screenplay and Best Female Lead. The comedy won Best Original Screenplay at the BAFTA awards and was nominated for three Golden Globes.
"A fresh, unusually intelligent comedy with dialogue so quick and funny you feel the actors are performing on a high-wire." - Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
