Historya

HISTORYA is a no-holds-barred tale of life in the central valley where the concentration of poor is the highest in America, and the landscape; rural meets inner city, as inhospitable as they come. Here we follow Eddie Estrada, a south Fresno youth compromised by his mere daily existence. In a choice between violence of escalating gang life and the prospect of becoming an army recruit, Eddie is left to decide just which bullets to dodge.

Based on Gary Soto's seminal book Buried Onions (now in its 16th printing), and adapted by Mary Kuryla, Historya is the story of survival, resilience, and triumph of the human spirit. It is the story of Eddie.

Gary Soto is a renowned Latino writer and recipient of the American Book Award, PEN Literary Award, Andrew Carnegie Award and twice a finalist for the National Book Award.

Award winning Mexican commercials director Rodrigo Garcia Saiz will make the film his feature debut.

The music industry has already brought Latino culture to a mainstream audience. We intend to use that market to further broaden the film's crossover appeal. We have approached breakout artist Manu Chao and multiple Grammy nominee Molotov.
